Buckeyes upset Terrapins in an historic affair

I have attended many Ohio State women's basketball games and I have seen some stellar players. Nothing compares to what I saw Monday night in Columbus, Ohio. The atmosphere was electric and you could tell something special was about to happen. The Ohio State Buckeyes had a chance to make a statement in the Big Ten and they seized the opportunity. The Lady Buckeyes defeated the #2 Terrapins by the score of 98-87. The was Ohio State's first major victory of a #1 or #2 since 1993. The Terrapins have three conference losses since moving to the Big Ten and the Buckeyes are responsible for all three of them.

It isn't often that people can see such quality talent like what the Maryland Lady Terrapins possess. Collectively, they move the ball around the court with tremendous efficiency. They have a fantastic long-range game and are exceptional in the post. Senior Brionna Jones lead the Terrapins with a 21 point effort and sharp-shooter and Ohio native Kristen Confroy was 2 for 6 from the field and added two assists.

The lone senior on the Buckeyes, Shayla Cooper scored 20 points in her final home game. Kelsey Mitchell scored 31 of Ohio State's ninety-eight points. The atmosphere was electric as 6,500+ fans were thoroughly engaged in the proceedings on the court. The win was extra special for the Buckeyes because in addition to senior night, it was the annual "pink game" for breast cancer awareness. The team wore gray uniforms with pink trim and Head Coach Kevin McGuff wore black Nike sneakers with pink accents.

My final take from the game, I have seen great players come through the Ohio State like Samantha Prahalis and Taylor Hill, but Kelsey Mitchell is an electric player. However, don't sleep on the Terrapins. They moved the ball with great proficiency and had some serious mustard on their passes. Turnovers were the reason they couldn't stay with Ohio State, but I fully anticipate they will clean up the mistakes and learn from them. Take the opportunity to watch either of these teams in the last weeks of the season. I assure you it will not be a waste of your time.
