Dames Chicken and Waffles - Durham, NC

Whether you come from visiting the Durham Bulls or Carolina Hurricanes you have to make a point of visiting Dame's Chicken and Waffles in Downtown Durham, NC.
When you approach the restaurant you'll notice one thing, this place is popular.
Dame's opens most days around 10 o'clock in the morning and locals describe the breakfast joint as "a great place for a weekend brunch to catch up with friends."
Expect a lengthy wait on the weekend but don't worry the restaurant provides you with chairs so that you may take a seat.
Upon entering the restaurant you'll notice a clean and comfortable table awaiting you. The front of the house is a bit cluttered but you won't mind it if you have good company.
Allow yourself to marvel at the unique architecture and design inside the space as you see a rustic color pattern that is offset with pops of off-white around the storefront. The restaurant is decorated with some unique jazz memorabilia from various time frames.
My personal favorite was a poster featuring Duke Ellington, but that's because I'm watching the Netflix series Big Mouth.
Dame's wait staff are some of the best in the business as they are prompt, friendly, and attentive. Take time to relax with a cup of coffee and some good conversation as you wait for your food to arrive.
Once your food arrives at the table, appreciate the delectable color palette of your golden brown waffle and your chicken breast fried just right in Dame's spices.
Don't be shy! Jump right into your food, no one will judge you.
Make sure you apply one of their "Shmears" generously on your breakfast.
What is a "Shmear"?
Described as a sweet creme butter, Dames makes seven different blends that are available at all locations. My personal favorite was the strawberry-creme.
Make sure you set plenty of time aside for an afternoon nap.
You're going to need it.
