Los Angeles Galaxy release Aleksandar Katai following wife's social media posts
Updated: Jun 7, 2020

In an era of tweets, posts, and shares, people are being less cautious with what they are posting on social media. Some users yearn to share the next big “hot-take” or “a-ha” moment, while others compose pointless and insensitive material.
That’s where we meet Tea Katai, wife of former Chicago Fire and current Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Aleksandar Katai. Her recent social media posts, which have since been taken down, mocked protests related to the tragic death of George Floyd nearly two weeks ago in Minneapolis, Minnesota. LAG Confidential reports the posts were removed at the Galaxy’s request.
Some of the content she shared advocated for the police to “kill” or run over protesters and resorted to calling them “animals” as she mocked the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Galaxy condemned the actions in a statement on Wednesday.
“Earlier today, the LA Galaxy were made aware of a series of racist and violent social media posts by Tea Katai, the wife of LA Galaxy midfielder Aleksandar Katai. The LA Galaxy strongly condemned the social posts and requested their immediate removal. The LA Galaxy stands firmly against racism of any kind, including that which suggests violence or seeks to demean the efforts of those in pursuit of racial equality.
The LA Galaxy stand with communities of color, and especially the Black community, in the protests and fight against systemic racism, social inequality, bigotry and violence. The LA Galaxy will hold a meeting with Katai on Thursday, June 4 and will determine next steps.
Now is the time to reflect on our role in helping fight racism in our community”
Her husband Aleksandar took to social media on Thursday and took responsibility for his wife’s actions. He condemned his wife’s words while claiming he wasn’t racist.
Regardless of the damage control by the franchise and the Katai’s, supporters shared their discontent for the social media posts and protested in front of Dignity Health Sports Park.
Following the meeting, both Aleksandar Katai and the Los Angeles Galaxy decided to mutually part ways. The club released a statement Friday to confirm the events.
The Galaxy's statement read just 13 words.
"The LA Galaxy have mutually agreed to part ways with midfielder Aleksandar Katai."
