The Untitled Crew Photo Project

The Columbus Crew captured its second MLS Cup on Saturday night with an incredible performance that resulted in a 3-0 victory over the Western Conference Champion Seattle Sounders.
The fixture provided several memorable moments that will linger in the minds of Crew fans for generations to come. Given the fact the Black & Gold were halfway to Austin, Texas, just a few seasons ago, Saturday’s victory was extra special for a region and a city that managed to keep its team in the face of adversity.
2020 serves as the last full season that the Crew will call MAPFRE Stadium home as they will open up a new downtown stadium in Summer 2021.
Despite not being able to support their club in a global pandemic, Crew fans love and passion never wavered. Black & Gold fans were treated to just one appearance from their hometown club before COVID-19 forced the sports world to a grinding halt in early March.
Fans wouldn’t be allowed back into the stadiums around the United States for nearly eight months. In an effort to keep fans close to their club, journalists and photographers had to adapt and get creative with how they presented content to their readers and observers.
With new camera angles, social distancing, and various safety protocols enforced, photographers brought fans close to the game they longed to see. Photographers were privileged to capture some memorable moments.
The goal of this new project is to explain what I was feeling and the atmosphere in the stadium at the time that I captured an image. I look forward to giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the Crew’s best moments from 2020 from my lens and we might even incorporate some images from my talented senior editor Sam Fahmi.
As always, thank you for your support, and I look forward to telling these stories.
